Getting to Sabang

Entry into Indonesia

In normal circumstances, visitors from many countries, including the USA, UK, Australia, Canada, and many European countries, can obtain a tourist visa on arrival in Indonesia. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Indonesia has temporarily suspended the visa-on-arrival facility for all foreign visitors. Therefore, check with your nearest Indonesia embassy or consulate to determine of if you are required to obtain a visa before your arrival in Indonesia.

Visa

You will want to apply for the B211A visa.  It covers tourism, social/cultural activities and more with a 60 day period of stay. It is not a “work visa”.  This visa can be extended twice (60 days per extension) allowing for a maximum stay of 180 days.

Single Entry Visit Visa for Tourism Purpose costs IDR 1,500,000 rupiah or about 110.00 euros. 

Flights and Ferry’s

From most international locations you can fly to CGK Soekarno Hatta Airport Jakarta.  From Jakarta, fly to Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport in Banda Aceh (BTJ) .  You will be picked up at the airport by Mr. Zulkifli and taken to the Express Ferry to Sabang. When you arrive in Sabang, you will picked by Mrs. Sri Nilawati and taken to your accommodation.

Depending on your where you are coming from, you may be able to fly directly into BTJ without having to go to Jakarta. Please explore different flight options to minimize your flight time and expense. 

There are currently no flights into Sabang airport so you will need to arrive at BTJ in Banda Aceh and take the ferry to Sabang. The ferry takes around 45 minutes to an hour depending on the weather and sea conditions.

Make sure to have all necessary travel documents such as a valid passport and visa.
